..under arrest..

well, what a day i have had! wake up, get ready for work...the usual. start my 30 min commute down to good old ogden...it was a smooth drive, no traffic, no road construction. get to work a half an hour early and decide to go get a bagel for breakfast. on my way to old grist mill i pass a cop. the second i saw it i knew i was dead meet.

rewind back one week from today. on my lovely commute to work that morning i was pulled over for expired registration. then when the cop took my licence and proof of insurance he realized my insurance had expired as well. oops!! i called dear lance right away, he said he'd call the insurance company right then. the cop was nice and only gave me a ticket for expired registration so that he didn't have to impound my car for no insurance. he told me i had 14 days to get my car registered, and to keep the copy of my citation in the car at all times in case i got pulled over again.

fast forward to today, monday june 21st, 9:35 a.m., i pass the cop and spare her the inconvenience of turning on her lights - the second i saw her flip a "u-ie" i knew she was coming for me so i just pulled over. she asks for my license, reg., and proof of insurance...i hand it all to her along with my ticket from last monday. i explained how we just switched insurance companies last week and they said it could take two weeks for it to appear on the system. she goes back to her truck (yes, the cops drive trucks in ogden), makes some calls, is taking FOREVER, comes back and asks me a few more questions. another cop pulls up, she says "ma'am i need you to step out of your car." i get out and then she says, "did you know you have a warrant issued for your arrest?" i say, "NO. for what?!" she said, "it looks like a traffic violation issued out of logan in JANUARY OF 2008." hmmm.... so then i ask why the officer who pulled me over last week didn't tell me about it. she says, "i don't know, but unfortunately i have to take you in?" take me in where? TO JAIL!! so she handcuffs me, plops me in the front seat of her truck (i would have rather been in the back), and hauls me off to the weber county jail.

okay now lets rewind again to december 2007. on the 11th in the darling town of logan, utah, a stupid USU cop pulled me over for a burned out tail light. he gave me a "fix-it ticket," which i had 14 days to take care of. well, eight days later - december 19th to be exact - i got in a horrible accident and totaled my car. so obviously i couldn't fix the burned out tail light. i called the logan court to rectify the situation, they said they would "take care of it," whatever that means. well nothing was ever taken care of, bc that same court issued a warrant for my arrest one month later. a warrant that i had no knowledge or record of. i never received a letter in the mail, a phone call, an email...nothin'! but of course it is my responsiblity to keep my address updated so apparently this is still all my fault.

on the way to jail, the cop says "i just want you to know i am not going to issue you a citation for expired registration." my thoughts? "oh gee thanks. #1, you CAN'T, bc i was already issued a citation for that and still have 7 days to take care of it so you can't give me another ticket for the same thing. #2, you are taking me to jail for the DUMBEST THING IN THE WORLD, and you sit here and act like you've done me a favor?!" this woman was a complete b*!#$^. we arrive at the weber county jail, she completely feels me up...everywhere. another officer does the same thing five minutes later. they ask me ridiculous questions like "are you involved in any gang activity? are you carrying any weapons or knives? do you have any enemies that you know of in this facility? do you have an contagious diseases? are you suicidal?" at one point i said, "do i look like the type of girl who carries guns, knives and is involved with a gang? me and my petite 5'3" figure, with the face of a 17-year-old?" it's absolutely absurd!

then i sat in jail for two hours with some pretty hard core girls who i just prayed wouldn't beat me to a pulp. i tried so hard to be brave and not cry but when they pulled me out to take my mug shot i just started bawling! when the time came for my phone calls (you get 5 by the way, not just one) i couldn't get a hold of anyone! finally i got a hold of a lady i work with. she knew i had been taken to jail bc the officer that pulled me over said she would call someone to come pick up my car so they didn't have to impound it, so we called dixie. she came and posted my $260 cash only bail and i got to leave.

moral of the story? even if you total your car, make sure and fix the burned out tail light or you will get taken to jail.

the end.

ha ha micah got put into jail for the exact same reason!!! a fix-it-ticket on his rear tail light. Issued by a Logan cop too.

But the two sheriffs were nice that brought him in, they actually dropped him off to my house and he came in and got me to give me his debit card to get his bail out. The sheriffs were actually apologizing, because since they ran his license and it pulled up that he had a warrant they couldn't let him go at that point and had to bring him in. He actually got money back from the county because the judge said it was the stupidest charge.

But Jenny is right! You have to laugh about it now!

oh my gosh littke becky. Im so so sorry. that would have been such a horrible experience. i cant believe cops they are so dumb and they never do there job so they end up blamming you for something that you never did. im glad that you are okay. its so weird. when there isnt a serious situation people are always there to answer the phone but no when its an emergency there never there to answer your call. so sorry again.
