i think one of the reasons i enjoy baking so much is because i can clear my head and take out my frustration on the batter i am beating..the cream i am whipping..the ingredients that i am mixing..etc.... plus, it is always so much fun to lick the bowls when i am done with them, and then try the finished product of course!
yesterday though, everything went all wrong. i was craving fresh strawberry pie, so instead of going to marie calendar's where i would pay way too much for something that i could make my
self (and make it better than they do!) i set out on a journey to make it. first i needed a pie crust recipe, and my mom is always telling me about all these different pie crusts she makes, so i called her to get her best recipe, which came from ina garten (of course. our favorite recipes are always from ina). then i found a fresh strawberry pie recipe from pillsbury so i bought all my ingredients and began.well first of all, the pie crust was a DISASTER! seriously. i have made some bad things before, i'll admit, but nothing has turned out as disastrous as this! it was all sticky and wet and i kept thinking "there is no way this is right." so i added tons more flour to it, and some more sugar and salt, until it was a consistency that felt right for a crust. then i cooked it, and of course i burned it! haha i always set a timer bc if i don't, things burn. well the timer went off and i thought it needed a few minutes longer, and by the time i remembered it, it was a bit crispier than it should have been! haha but it wasn't completely burnt, so i still used it. then i put the strawberries and the glaze in it and let it cool. we cut into it, and for something that i had no idea what went wrong, it turned out okay.
well today i woke up and had some pie for breakfast and even though it tasted good, i was determined to get this pie crust right....so i tried again. and the same thing happened!! it was all sticky and buttery and shorteningish. well my mom came over and we just stared at it, trying to figure out what was wrong with it! then she read through the recipe i had written down -- and alas, the answer to our problem: instead of 3/4 a cup of flour (which is what i had written down) it called for 3-4 cups of flour!! haha we both just laughed for about a half an hour! seriously, how did i get something like that so wrong?! omg. i was ready to give up on baking bc i was so frustrated that it wasn't working out, so even though my mistake was so stupid, i felt better once i knew why it wasn't turning out right.
moral of the story: next time i get a recipe from someone over the phone, make sure to write each part down right!!!

Ha! That is so funny. I would have been sooo frustrated! I should get some of your favorite recipes from you next time we hang out!
You are too funny! I would have loved to been there while you were making the pie crust. Try adding a little extra butter or shortening to the mixture. It makes the pie crust extra flakey and yummy! Why do the yummy things always have to be fattening?? Hope the next one turns out better!
Pie crust is super hard to make anyways...you have to mix it only a tiny bit and then you have to roll it out just right....Gary really wanted a rubarb strawberry pie so I cheated and bought pie crusts.....it was the easiest pie I've ever made!! Good luck on the pie thing though...I guess I should keep plugging away with the crust too! Thank goodness for moms huh??!!
